MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT TRAINEE – SUMMER EMPLOYMENT

The Maintenance Department:

The Maintenance Department provides capital services including infrastructure planning, design and construction, and improvement projects while the focus of the public works is to the maintenance, repair and operation of all Pauquachin First Nation buildings, water and sewer systems, and roads.

The Opportunity:

The Maintenance Assistant Trainee supports the Maintenance Department and is responsible for performing general maintenance and grounds keeping duties throughout the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works independently with minimal supervision and maintains confidential information;

  • Operates ground maintenance vehicles and associated equipment including truck, lawn mower, chain saw, axes, and other yard/lawn maintenance tools;

  • Performs duties including but not limited to edging, grass cutting, weeding, planting trees, shrubs and seasonal bedding, pruning, small tree works, and any other gardening tasks associated with grounds maintenance;

  • Checks equipment and machinery daily for needed repairs;

  • Completes vehicle and equipment check lists accurately, reporting problems, concerns and needed repairs;

  • Attends relevant training, orientation and workshops identified by the Lead Maintenance Worker to enhance program services;

  • Monitors areas of responsibility for opportunities for improvement and innovation and works proactively to implement these;

  • Attends departmental and staff meetings and events as required;

  • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, and all other policies, bylaws and laws adopted by Council as well as legislated policies;

  • Maintains strict confidentiality and exercises sound judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues;

  • Presents a professional, positive and helpful attitude at all times;

  • Promotes a positive and safe work environment; ensures that all established safety procedures are followed;

  • Carries out other duties essential to the position as directed by the Lead Maintenance Worker.

What we require from you:

  • Must be between the ages of 15 – 30 (inclusive) at the start of employment;

  • Must possess a Social Insurance Number;

  • Class 5 Driver’s License and a clean driver’s abstract is preferred;

  • Clean criminal record check required.
