Pauquachin Election Information 2022
PAUQUACHIN FIRST NATION ELECTION ACT INFORMATION (FNEA)
On March 16, 2022 Pauquachin Leadership adopted the First Nation Election Act. The changes that will take place were shared at the community meeting on July 14, 2022. As a reminder these are highlights for the upcoming 2022 Pauquachin First Nation Election:
· Term of office is 4 years under the First Nations Elections Act
· A nomination package will be mailed to all off Reserve Voters for which we have a valid address on August 18, 2022, this will include a request for Mail in ballot Packages needed to vote by mail in the October 20, 2022 election.
· The time of the complete election process is reduced – Nomination Meeting September 14, 2022 and Election date October 20, 2022.
· Mail in ballot packages must be requested in writing (no ballot packages will be mailed to off reserve voters unless requested by individual voters)
· An individual can only nominate 1 candidate for Chief, and up to 4 candidates for Council
· All candidates must complete an acceptance of candidacy form
· Candidates will be charged a Deposit fee at time of acceptance - $50 for Council, $75 for Chief which is refundable if they get at least 5% of the vote
· A candidate can only run for one position as Chief or Councillor (not both)
· The Act allows a petition for removal from office of the Chief and/or councillors
· There are penalty provisions in the Act for any candidate or elected official who acts without due diligence.
